ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Let There Be Light
If you've spent any amount of time at the beginning of the Bible, you'll recall the story of how God created the heavens and the earth in Genesis 1.
The very first thing God did was speak light into existence.
And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. (Gen. 1:3)
When we think of light, we most often think of light from the sun, but it's interesting to note that God didn't create the sun, moon and stars until day four of creation — whereas light was created on day one.
And God said, let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs and tokens [of God's provident care], and [to mark] seasons, days, and years. And let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light upon the earth... And God made the two great lights — the greater light (the sun) to rule the day and the lesser light (the moon) to rule the night ... And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. (Gen 1:14-19, Amplified)
So, what was the light that God created on day one? Before He created the sun and moon. Was it His presence? His glory?
This shows us something very important. Nothing — not even light — can exist on its own. Because even light didn't originate with the creation of the sun, but with the voice of God speaking.
This is a strong reminder that all of our best intentions, and most carefully laid out plans, are completely and utterly powerless without God being at the center of them.
The next time you feel overwhelmed or alone in a situation, remember that God Himself illuminates everything far more than the natural lights of our universe ever could! Then invite God to speak His Word of light and life into your situation.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Ladies of OLC are invited to come out to our Women's Connect group! They meet on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM at the church. They will be going through the book, The Remarkable Women of the Bible by Elizabeth George. For more information, contact the church office or talk to Donna Prestage.
Men, if you want to dig further into God's Word and build community, come on out to our Men's Connect! There are two groups to choose from: Tuesday mornings with Pastor Wayne at 6:30 AM and Saturday mornings with Stuart at 9:00 AM. The Tuesday morning Men's Connect starts back up next week (Sept 15th).
Join us this coming Sunday, September 13th, for Connection Sunday and Taco-in-a-bag lunch after the service! Please bring a dessert to share.
OLC is holding a Prayer Summit on Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00 PM. Come pray for the different ministries of OLC and anything else the Lord leads us to pray for together!

Lethbridge City Wide Youth is holding its annual 2026 Youth Kickoff event at Legacy Park North on Friday, September 18th, from 5:30–9:00 PM. All youth, grades 6–12 are welcome!
You're invited to our annual Family Forum on Monday, September 21st at 7 PM. Come learn more about your church family — where we've come from, and where God is leading us!
The Lethbridge House of Prayer is celebrating 20 years! You're invited to join the celebration and attend their Fundraising Gala on Saturday, September 26th at 7 PM (Doors open at 6 PM). It will be held at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge. Tickets are $40 and are available by clicking here.
