Never Without A Friend
How many people would you consider to be your close friends? Those who really know you and whom you regularly spend time with. Research has shown that having a strong social network can have a positive impact on our health and wellbeing.

The Bible confirms this as well. Community, meeting together, and building each other up are encouraged throughout the Word of God. Below are just a couple examples:

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25, ESV)

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend (Proverbs 27:17, NLT) 

Having friendship is a blessing. But it is also a fact that many of our friendships do change over time. In fact, studies have shown that we lose touch with about 50% of the friends that we make.
    
As we grow and change as people, many of our friendships change as well. Some grow closer together and some drift apart. This happens natually, and sometimes God leads us into or out of different friendships depending on the season and His plan for us. 

Building a strong community and godly friendships should be a part of our Christian walk. And we should be thankful for them! But no matter what season of friendship we are in, it's important to realize that friendships, while important, sometimes change, sometimes disappoint, and sometimes our friends won't fully understand us.

But there is one friend who you can always count on to be by your side and understand you completely: Jesus!

Proverbs 18:24 in The Passion Translation, describes the kind of deep friendship that we can have in Jesus:

Some friendships don't last for long, but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other. (Proverbs 18:24, TPT)

Have you made Jesus your greatest and closest friend? With Him, you are NEVER without a friend!

ANNOUNCEMENTS​

All youth entering grades 6 - 12 are invited to come out for some awesome summer fun and activities this coming Thursday, August 6th from 7-9 PM at Henderson Lake Park (near the Kiwanis Picnic shelter).

This Sunday, we are continuing our study in the book of Colossians, chapter 2, verses 6-23. You won't want to miss it!

Join us for another Family Movie Afternoon at OLC this coming Sunday, August 9th at 2:00 PM. There will be snacks available for purchase, Veggietales downstairs for the kids, and the main film upstairs in the Sanctuary!

Alberta Awakening with Evangelist, Tommie Zito, is coming to Lethbridge this summer, August 19–22, 2026, for some powerful services and training on how to reach souls for the Kingdom of God! For more information, click here.

OLC is participating in The Lethbridge House of Prayer's "Every Church Adopt a School Initiative"! We are collecting backpacks as part of our community outreach to donate to kids at Lakeview Elementary School in Lethbridge (K-5). If you would like to donate a backpack, please bring it to the church by Aug 23rd. You can also pray for the kids at the school (a prayer list is included in the above image).
