ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
The Joy of the Lord is Your Strength I think we can all agree that there is no shortage of things in this world that we would like to see change. From things in our nation and government to the streets of our own cities, it's easy to focus on the things that are wrong and become so passionate about fixing the wrongs, that we forget to take time to see how God is moving in the midst of everything.
There's nothing wrong with being passionate about effecting change in the world. God calls people like us every day to do great exploits for Him on the earth. But in the midst of those great exploits, let's remember to focus on Jesus first and not on the problems.
A man named Nehemiah in the Bible was a man with a mission from God to rebuild the broken down walls of Jerusalem. He gathered a team around Him, and they worked diligently to rebuild the walls.
When they were finally finished, Nehemiah assembled the people, and they read from God's law and took time to praise God. As the people listened to the Law of God, they began to weep, maybe because they realized how far they had strayed from it. Then Nehemiah told the people:
"Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10 NLT)
Nehemiah encouraged the people to gather together and to celebrate! He reminded them that although there was still much to be done in their nation returning to God, they could take time to celebrate the victories already won and the goodness of God around them!
Let's remember to thank God and celebrate the victories He has given us this year! Remember, the joy of the Lord is your strength!

"Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!" Nehemiah 8:10b NLT
