Connecting Lives, Building Faith, Releasing Destiny

ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS

Steadfast
It can be hard to remain steadfast in our walk with the Lord.

Distractions come a dime a dozen, and our fast-paced society leaves very little room for focus and endurance to be naturally forged in our daily lives. It can be easy to seek God when we are at church and feel His presence, but at home, with the pressures and everything piled up in front of us, it can be a lot harder to remain in Him.

In 2 Chronicles 34, the Bible tells us about a young man who can give us some inspiration for remaining steadfast:

Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. He did what was pleasing in the LORD's sight and followed the example of his ancestor David. He did not turn away from doing what was right (verses 1–2).

Josiah was still a young kid when he was thrust into a leadership position in the nation, and he didn't have the best examples before him to follow. Both his father and his grandfather spent most (or all) of their lives turned away from God and serving idols.

Josiah must've had advisors that taught him to follow God like his ancestor David did. As Josiah grew older, the Bible says he began to seek after and yearn for God himself (vs 3) and his resolve to serve God intensified. The Amplified Bible describes Josiah this way:

He did right in the sight of the Lord and walked in the ways of David, his father [forefather] and turned aside neither to the right hand nor to the left. (Vs 2)

If we think that people like Josiah somehow had no doubts or distractions that tried to creep in and pull him away from God, we would be very mistaken. Just like us, Josiah had to be intentional about setting his focus straight ahead. There are endless distractions and opinions around us, so choosing each day to not turn aside to the right or to the left, is so important.

Lord, help us to remain steadfast in you, and to not let the distractions of the world keep us from you and your word.
