ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Faith Like A Child There are few interactions that you'll have in this life that will show you more honesty than in speaking with children. If you ask a question to a young child, you can almost always expect to get an honest answer. Even if it hurts. Innocent and trusting — they rarely say one thing and mean another.
We all start out like those children, but as we get older, an honest, trusting nature becomes harder to hold onto. As we grow up, we experience many disappointments, heartbreaks, and betrayals that can easily cause us to doubt if we can take others at their word — even God. It can be difficult to trust Him to keep His promises. Even when we know we should.
In scripture, when it comes to the Kingdom of God, Jesus makes it clear that we need to accept it as a child would.
Luke 18:17 says, "Truly, I tell you, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." (Luke 18:17 NIV)
When children accept something, they usually do so out of a pure heart. It's simple, humble faith that trusts the giver.
So, how do we accept the Kingdom of God in our own lives like a child? Looking at our own hearts, we may wonder how we could ever get back the innocent, trusting nature that we once had long ago. But maybe that's exactly the point. We need Jesus' help to learn to trust Him fully and completely. It doesn't happen all at once. But it can happen. One step at a time.
Faith like a child doesn't mean you wish you could become your younger self again. It means every day you choose to trust Him, even when so many experiences from your past are shouting at you otherwise. That is humble faith that develops one step at a time. And as you continue to walk in it, you'll start trusting Him more and more.
