ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
You Are Cherished As we approach the celebration of Mother's Day this weekend, what are some words that come to your mind to describe your mom?
Words like unconditional love and sacrifice might be among the first that come to mind for many of us.
In thinking about unconditional love, let us be reminded of the deep love that God has given us — through our moms and others that God has brought into our lives.
One of the most well-known verses in the Bible is one about love.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.' (John 3:16 NIV)
It's interesting to note that another word for love is the word cherish. According to Webster's Dictionary, cherish means:
1. a) To hold dear: feel or show affection for. b) To keep or cultivate with care and affection.
If you look at that second definition in light of scripture and what Jesus tells us, you will most likely think of John 15, verses 1–8, where Jesus talks about being the vine and us the branches. We can bear fruit in Him, and God prunes and cultivates us so that we can grow and bear much fruit for Him!
To be LOVED is to be CHERISHED. To be CHERISHED is to GROW!
