ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Make Room In Matthew, chapter 13, Jesus tells the parable of the Sower.
He describes a farmer that goes out to sow seed on his land. He scatters the seed, and it falls in various places that all affect the growth of the seed differently.
Some fell along the path and birds ate them up (vs.4). Some fell among rocks, but the soil was shallow, and the small plants were soon scorched from the hot sun (vs. 5 & 6).
In verse seven, Jesus describes what happened to the next handful of seed that fell among thorns (vs. 7). It says that the thorns and the seeds grew together, but soon the seeds started getting choked out.
If you have ever planted a garden, you know how quickly weeds and thorny bushes can grow up and crowd out the tiny plants that you are trying to grow. It's not that the seeds you are trying to grow aren't strong. Once they develop, most of them can grow much larger than the weeds and produce better fruit. But they need space to grow. That's why we weed our gardens.
It's the same thing in our lives. Worries, anxieties, and the busyness of everyday life grow so quickly in our lives, that they can easily take over. They shoot up just like the weeds in a garden, but their fruit isn't the good fruit we want in our lives. The good fruit of God's Word and His Spirit living inside of us produce lasting fruit that is good for us. But we need to make room for them to grow!
This week, let's spend time in God's Word and in His presence, and let His truth do some weeding in our hearts! Let's make room for the seeds God wants to plant within us.
