ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
In Disguise
Have you ever looked at something that appeared to be one thing, but then upon closer investigation, you found that it was something else all together?
There are many things in the world that can trick our eyes and make us do a double take. Wait! What was that?
Many times in our walk with Christ, it can be the same way. There can be things that initially appear good and true, but are actually not good or true when you look deeper.
The bible calls these things deception — because they might appear like truth, but as you peel the layers back, you realize they are lies.
2 Corinthians 11:14 says that even the devil disguises himself as an angel of light, because he knows we are much more likely to be led astray by his lies if he can disguise them to look like truth. That's how he deceived Adam and Eve in the garden (Genesis 3). He even attempted to deceive Jesus that way in the wilderness by taking scripture verses and twisting them to try to fit his agenda (Matthew 4).
We may think that would leave us in the very vulnerable position of trying to distinguish truth from deception on our own. But God always makes a way! He made sure that, as believers, we would have help to know what the truth is:
He has given us the Holy Spirit
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all things.
- John 16:13
He has given us His Word
Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
- John 17:17
Thank you, God, that we can be confident to be led into all truth by the Holy Spirit and Your Word!
