ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Decluttering With Jesus Do you enter the new year with the urge to start cleaning and reorganizing your entire life and home?
It must be the newness of the year that brings with it the desire to declutter our countertops and keep things more organized than they were before.
While we begin cleaning and clearing out unneeded items from our homes, it's the perfect opportunity to check for clutter in our hearts as well.
Heart-clutter can be that collection of anxious fears we have about the future, or keeping that jar of offenses and unforgiveness tucked just out of sight. Or the simple distractions of life that pile up in our hearts without us realizing it.
The Bible warns us about what can happen when our hearts are cluttered by comparing the condition of our heart to soil that is full of thorns.
In Mark, chapter 4, verses 3–8, Jesus tells the parable of the Sower. The Word of God is like seed and our hearts are like the soil. In verses 18 and 19, Jesus explains what cluttered heart soil can look like with so many cares and distractions and how that can affect the impact that God's Word is able to have on our lives.
The seed that fell among the thorns represents others who hear God's word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life, the lure of wealth, and the desire for other things, so no fruit is produced. (Mark 4:18-19 NLT)
As we declutter and organize our lives from the outside, let's remember that decluttering our hearts is even more important so we don't crowd out the things that God wants us to hear.
This week, spend time with Jesus and ask Him to show you the things in your heart that you can lay down to make more room for Him and His word in your heart in 2026. The Bible says to give all your worries and cares over to God because He cares about YOU. (1 Peter 5:7).
Have fun decluttering with Jesus!
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you." 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
