ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Obedience In The Little Things It should be safe to say that we all desire to be obedient to God and His Word. To trust Him in every area of our lives and do great things for Him in the earth.
When we think about obeying God, we can think of big acts of obedience - like travelling across the world to preach the gospel, or following the 10 commandments (do not worship other gods, do not steal, do not commit adultery ...)
Those are all important acts of obedience.
But what about all the small things? The tiny, daily acts of obedience that no one might notice or think about?
In the Bible, Daniel and his friends were among those of the Israelites who were taken captive into Babylon (Daniel 1:1-8)
They were taken in to serve the Babylonian king, and we integrated into the Babylonian culture. Everything about their lives was different now. Except for their relationship with God. Even the food they were given was different, and the bible says that the food was unacceptable in God's law. They courageously requested to be given vegetables to eat instead of the food that was served to them, and they were given favor. From a natural standpoint, it would've been very tempting and easy to conform out of fear. After all, it wasn't as if they were commanded to worship an idol in that moment. It was just food. And it appeared that they might not have a choice. But they didn't conform, and later they were rewarded and received more favor (verse 15-17). Daniel later became the wisest and most trusted man in all that land. But it started with Daniel obeying God in the small details of his life.
1 Samuel 15:22 says:
..."What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to His voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. (1 Samuel 15:22, NLT).
Lord, this week, help us to make conscious choices to obey you in the little things as well as the big things. And let everything we do give you glory!
"Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22b NLT
