Connecting Lives, Building Faith, Releasing Destiny
ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Let Your Light Shine Matthew 5:14 -16 are very well-known verses in the Bible. They are words from Jesus encouraging believers to not hide their faith and their life in Him but to let it shine brightly so that it is easily visible to anyone and everyone around.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it in its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 NIV)
The verses compare hiding our faith to lighting a lamp, but then promptly covering it up. That didn't make sense in Jesus' time, and it doesn't make sense in our time either. The whole point of turning on a light is to be able to see something.
For us, letting our light shine means showing forth our identity in Christ to a world that desperately needs Him. It's not about us shining, it's about Him shining through us. It's about telling others about Jesus. But it's more than that as well. It's letting our daily words and actions show forth God's goodness and faithfulness in our lives.
It's showing patience in the line at the grocery store. It's showing compassion to those in need. It's speaking words of life and hope to those around us, and being faithful to what God has called us to do.
So, let your light shine this week! Take every opportunity to let the world around you see the fruit that the Holy Spirit has been working on in your heart and your life, and share the joy of those fruits with others! Your light may inspire others to glorify God and let their light shine as well!
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven." Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
