ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Make a Joyful Noise
When was the last time you just shouted out for joy as loudly as you could?
When we think of cheering and making a loud noise, we usually think of a sports event or a concert. Places where everyone is cheering and expected to cheer. Those experiences are great! But how often do we cheer because of the little things in our personal lives? The things that no one sees and no one else is cheering for?
Our culture tends to downplay ordinary moments of expressive joy because either we don't want to draw attention to ourselves, or our minds immediately start doubting that the good moment will last.
But the Bible challenges us to be joyful, and to make a joyful noise, regardless of our circumstances!
Make a joyful noise unto God, all the earth; Sing forth the honor and glory of His Name; make His praise glorious! (Psalm 66:1-2, AMP)
The Bible commands us to actually make noise when we are celebrating and praising God! But how often do we keep ourselves quiet, even during praise and worship at church? Are we taking the opportunity to really celebrate Jesus or are we just coasting through it, more concerned about what others are thinking around us?
What about moments at home when we witness the goodness of God around us? Do we brush it off, or do we stop right there and thank God — out loud — for what he has done?
Let's challenge ourselves this week to not downplay the small moments of joy but to take the opportunity to stir ourselves up with loud praise and thanksgiving to God!

OLC is participating in The Lethbridge House of Prayer's "Every Church Adopt a School Initiative"! We are collecting backpacks as part of our community outreach to donate to kids at Lakeview Elementary School in Lethbridge (K-5). If you would like to donate a backpack, please bring it to the church by Aug 23rd. You can also pray for the kids at the school (a prayer list is included in the above image).
