ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
The Love That Never Runs Out There are so many stories in the Bible that show forth the amazing heart of God to look after His people!
One of those stories is found in 2 Kings, chapter 4. It's the story of a widow who lived in Israel during the time of the prophet Elisha.
The story begins with the widow coming to Elisha, and pleading for help. Her husband had died and she was left with nothing to pay their debts. Her children were at risk of becoming slaves to their debtors, and she was desperate to save her family.
Elisha asked her what she had in her house and she told him they had nothing but a flask of oil. (Vs. 2)
Elisha directed her to borrow as many empty jars as she could, and then to go into her house and pour the jar of oil that she had into all of the borrowed jars. (Vs. 3-4)
Most of us in her position would immediately start to question how pouring the oil from one jar into several other jars would help her in that impossible situation. But she did as Elisha directed, and as she poured from her one jar of oil, ALL of the other jars she had borrowed were filled! (Vs. 5-6a)
It would've been awesome to be there in that moment and see the miracle of all those jars filling up with oil from the single jar that she poured from.
God performed a miracle on her behalf! Afterward, she sold the jars and had enough to pay off her debts and live off the rest with her sons. God provided for her in her time of need. And He has done the same for us!
Through Jesus Christ, He has given us the indescribable gift of eternal life and love that keeps pouring out to us and never runs dry!
Through the gift of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in our lives, as His children, we can be confident that He will take care of us. How He does it might be unexpected, but His love is a love that never runs out!
"So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was filled to the brim!" 2 Kings 4:5-6a NLT
