ENCOURAGING THOUGHTS
Building In Front Of Your Own House Most of us have heard the story of Nehemiah in the bible. He was a Jewish man who was taken captive during the exile of Israel and he served as a cupbearer to the king.
When he heard about how the wall around Jerusalem had been broken down and the gates and the city destroyed, God put it on his heart to rebuild the wall in Jerusalem. After getting permission from the king, he traveled there and rallied the people and they began rebuilding the wall.
The wall was an important part of many cities at that time because it offered defense and protection for the people and the resources inside.
As Nehemiah and the people began rebuilding the wall, everyone got involved. The bible details in Nehemiah, chapter 3 that rulers, merchants, goldsmiths, and even the priests made repairs to the wall and the gates. In verses 10, 23, and 28-30, families and groups are mentioned as building and repairing the sections of the wall and gates that were in front of their homes.
Above the Horse Gate, the priests made repairs, each in front of his own house.
- Nehemiah 3:28
It's inspiring to see how they all worked together to rebuild their city. When threats of violence came, they had half of the men continue building and the other half stand guard to protect them.
As believers in Christ, we can take courage from the people in Nehemiah's time. We may not be called to build a wall, but we are called to do what God has called us to as He builds His Kingdom! We are his fellow workers (1 Corinthians 3:9) in the earth and if we each do our part, the work He has called us to accomplish will get done!
So, let's build what God has put on our hearts. Let's each do the work he has called us to do! We can start in (and in front) of our own homes.
